The International High-Altitude Balloon (HAB) Flight Program gives high school, college and university students a real space mission: design a scientific payload in your classroom, fly it to the edge of space from a launch site in the United States, and get the data back; wherever in the world your school is. (Currently offered in the United States of America and Australia only - more countries coming soon). The program is designed to be a 10 week online program in 2026, register your interest below to find out more about the contents of the program.

Teachers and Student teams work through the same payload lifecycle used on real world space missions including requirements, design, integration, flight readiness, launch, and data analysis all guided by Australian/American Space leader Kim Ellis Hayes.

Students choose a research question biology, materials, atmospheric science, imaging and engineer an experiment to survive near-space conditions: extreme cold, low pressure, and high UV. Curriculum-aligned resources support teachers at every step.

The winning two schools payloads are integrated and launched on a high-altitude balloon from a partner launch site in the United States, ascending above 99% of Earth's atmosphere before parachute descent and recovery. Schools can follow the launch live or watch the video later.

Teams receive their flight data, imagery, and recovered payload materials, then complete a post-flight analysis the same close-the-loop discipline expected of professional payload teams. Every student flies something real.
